Day 9 of 12 Days of Giveaways: Cats, coffee and a good book

Day 9 of 12 Days of Giveaways is for lovers of cats, books and coffee! But I’m sorry. Today’s giveaway does not include a cat.

There’s nothing better than curling up with a good book, a cup of coffee (or hot chocolate)  and a cat. And I love doing so that much more in the winter months, you know, pull on some warm cat socks and wrap a fuzzy blanket around yourself. In fact, I think I’ll put that on this weekend’s agenda! I’m currently reading the first in a cat cozy series called Curiosity Thrilled The Cat by Sofie Kelly. Anyone heard of it?

What are some of your favorite books or cat cozy series? I’m always on the lookout for a fun read. Here are two series that I’ve enjoyed about real life, and coincidentally, ginger tabby cats. ***These are Amazon affiliate links.

Cat Book Collection

Street Cat Bob

If you’re a cat and book lover, you’ve no doubt heard of Street Cat Bob. Especially because a movie based on the book recently opened. (I loved it and loved seeing Bob play himself.)

I first learned of James Bowen and his cat Bob when I wandered into a bookstore while on vacation, a bookstore aptly named REaD Cat Books (which I just Googled and am so sad to hear is now closed). I bought the first book in the series of (currently) three books – A Street Cat Named Bob – but didn’t circle back to read it for a month or two. But when I finally did, I devoured the book in one day, which is based on the true story of a formerly homeless, recovering drug addict – and how Bob the cat helped save his life.

When I finished the book, I Googled James Bowen and Bob and was thrilled to learn there was a follow up book already published (The World According to Bob), and I also flew through that book.

Last Christmas, I read the latest in the series and think it would be a perfect read for any cat lover during the holiday season. A Gift from Bob

Did you know that there’s also an illustrated kids version about Bob? My Name Is Bob imagines what life was like before Bob found James. It tells of how he lost his previous owner and his life on the street, and… (spoiler alert) how he ultimately found James.

Bob to the Rescue is a fun little fictional tail tale of how Bob helps a lost puppy find his way home. Too cute for words! Both of these kids books have adorable illustrations.

Library Cat Dewey

Again, cat and book lovers likely already know about Dewey, who was the real life library cat in the small town of Spencer, Iowa. I loved reading about Dewey and getting to know Vicki Myron, the head librarian who cared for Dewey at the library. Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

I have yet to read the follow up to the first Dewey book, which contains nine short adventures with Dewey. Dewey’s Nine Lives

There’s also a young reader edition called Dewey the Library Cat. Still in novel format, it’s perfect for middle grade readers and is complete with several full color photos of Dewey.

And for readers too young for the middle grade edition, they can enjoy this illustrated kids book. Dewey: There’s a Cat in the Library!

I didn’t know about Dewey’s Christmas book until now! Looks like I have one more I need to add to my collection of Dewey books. Dewey’s Christmas at the Library

  1. I rescue former ferals, mostly feral, ones that I have been able to tame some, and have a feral cat room in my home. I also consider that my reading room. I love curling up in there with a good book. It is the most relaxing place to read.

  2. Another great giveaway! My Aunt Pauline has written a few cat books: Trouble the Cat, the Gift of Magic and the Bastet Triology. You can find them on Amazon. We have one of the Bob books but didn’t know there’s a whole series plus children’s books. Oh, and TW LOVES her some coffee.

  3. Glad you enjoyed them. They all sound like great books, but mommy doesn’t read fur entertainment. She never really did, but now dat her eyes are old, da blogs she can bigify are all da entertainment she says she has time fur. MOL Big hugs

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Raena

  4. I have the Dewey book but I haven’t read it yet. So many books so little time!!! But I read The Art of Racing in the Rain recently and it tore me up so maybe I should take a while before reading the cat book. 🙂

  5. These books look so cute! We have a cat that we rescued so I think these books would be enjoyed by the whole family.

  6. I love coffee and books! It`s great when I snuggle up with a book that my cat comes and snuggles also! They all go together.

  7. Lillian Jackson Braun wrote a cozy mystery series featuring a reporter and his two siamese cats (The Cat Who…) that was pretty good. Also enjoyed The Cat Who Came For Christmas many years ago.
